It’s amazing to think that Rihanna is still only 23 years old, with an incredible five albums already under her belt and tens of millions of album and singles sales globally, the Barbadian beauty stands at the very top of the pile of global pop megastars.
Perhaps even more impressive though is how well she manages to continually re-invent herself and stay ahead of the game. Her ever evolving style has seen her leave the innocent girl next door look of 2005′s Music of the Sun long behind transforming into the sultry (good girl gone) bad girl persona in 2007 and then onto Rated R’s damaged dominatrix and finally into flame haired pop goddess for 2010′s Loud.
But there’s always been plenty of substance to her style as well; her music has always pushed the edges of the pop envelope. She was amongst the first big US artists to embrace the mash-up culture of the mid 00s when she and her team re-invented Soft Cell’s Tainted Love for 2006′s SOS only to re-invent the wheel again a year later with the epic but minimal globe swallowing hit Umbrella. Ri-Ri’s personal life may have then conditioned some of the lyrical themes on 2009′s brooding Rated R but the surprise choice of Drum & Bass/ Dubstep duo Chase and Status (a good 2 years before their own mainstream success) for teaser single “Wait Your Turn” was ones of the bravest moves by a pop star in years.
So, it’s with all of that in mind that she seems the perfect candidate to kick off our Dig Deep series of artist career focused playlists. For the true fan we’ve also compiled the ‘Complete’ Rihanna – every song she’s been involved in currently on Spotify.
